Building a strong mind
In the bhakti traditions we typically don't spend a lot of time working with our mind and generally try to skip over and "just chant" or "just try to please Sri Krsna", which for some may be alright and satisfying. I, however, like to be able to connect deeply with the practice I am doing and learning the mechanics of how to do that through pranayama, mudra, and Dharana proved to be immensely satisfying and allowed me clues to decipher why at times I feel completely switched on and connected to my japa, dhyana, puja, or kirtana.
In Ayurveda these substances are discussed in regards to health, however, we all know that a healthy body=healthy mind; add self-inquiry and knowledge of Krsna and the process of devotion and now you're getting somewhere.
To give a small idea of how to maintain these principles I'd like to suggest utilizing 3 different tools each one helps to develop one of those three principles in a simple way.
Firstly prana can be cultivated by eating clean and wholesome foods, eliminating waste correctly, and learning to breathe correctly.
Tejas is gained through austerity, fasting, mantric recitation and fire sacrifices.
Lastly, ojas can be developed by consuming fresh cows milk, singing, connecting to water and Kirtana.
When the three aspects of the mind become strong and healthy, the mental space is clear like space and thoughts are lucid and wise. With this kind of mind contemplate the abode of the lord, then his entourage, then his form, qualities, pastimes, and names. With this kind of mind, all gunas in balance, Suddha sattva will be known.
The one becomes three becomes three pairs of three
Know the one but not three and you will never be free.
