Love is my life
When I was very young, around 3, I was introduced to the concept of love by a young girl and a friend who more or less coerced me into a fake little wedding in a toy house. The friend pretended to be the priest and said a brief but very dramatic sermon, finishing with you may now kiss the bride. I was shy, I resisted, she was not and pulled me close and gave me a quick, innocent peck. stunned and confused, I then sat there with her, holding her hand. I remember thinking "So, does this mean we're in love?" What was love? I distinctly recall the spark of fascination that question instilled in me. In a way, that moment, that question, changed my life.
The next 25 years of my life would turn out to be an adventure of chasing love, attempting to ride its magnificent waves, breaking bones and hearts trying to learn how the hell the mystical and beautiful treasure could be attained... It became my journey!.
So now I look back and realize these points about my life.
- My religion or spiritual discipline is primarily Bhakti or the cultivation of divine love for the supreme, that loves true name is Prema. It is based on the idea that the souls true calling is to fall madly in love with the supreme and engage in endless play with him. To render devotional service and absorb oneself deeply in heart of being, causes one to experience the highest possible happiness. We call this relationship between the totality and love, Sri Sri Radha-Krsna!
- I am blessed to live in a place I absolutely love. The northern rivers of NSW Australia is truly a mesmerizing and awesome place to be. I surf almost every day in waves that are truly world class. The amount of spiritualists and Vaishnavas here is staggering, to say the least.
- I have been blessed to be married for the past 10 years, to a woman I truly love. We have been through the ups and downs and we always find new ways to grow that love and really realize the connection between love and spirituality.
- I have a family who supports and loves me with a fury. We are six siblings in total and have always been close. Our parents always taught us to value the love in our life. We are a family blessed by loving care and devotion to each others wellbeing, both material and spiritual.
I feel blessed in this life to know so many people who have the knowledge and practice of love as the centre of their lives. This sacred teaching is truly wonderful and ecstatic. Life blessed by love is a never-ending pastime of service, gratitude, compassion, and wisdom.
Although. I know myself to be short of deserving these blessings, it is, nevertheless, a gift I cannot deny but can only give praise and thanks to those who have graced my life.
To my Guru, my Istha-deva, and my sangha
