The Envious Snake

There exists a force which, like a snake in the grass, causes the downfall of many a traveller on the path of yoga. The vicious and poisonous influencer of evil deeds and bitterness of hearts is called Envy. Beware!

Life is meant to be lived in liberty and abundance. This world is our mother, the provider of all. Dispensing her bounty upon all her children according to their respective actions and merits, she follows one simple rule. What you give, is what you get. In Sanskrit, this is called "dadaati prati grhnati" it is a rule which makes simple the cause of our fortune and misfortune alike.

A yogi lives in gratitude for the abundance mother nature has provided, seeing that all receive their fair share. Envy pollutes this natural perception of balance by imposing individual bias and preference along with the deep desire to prevent others from attaining their own fair share. The result is a toxic attitude towards others, oneself, and the world. When we fall into envy, it can be sure we will be trampled like a snake under the foot of reality, suffering the agony of repeated frustration, disappointment, and resentment.

I urge my readers to be ever watchful that this snake is not allowed in your garden of spiritual progress, social interaction, and self-perception. Cut him down immediately by the wisdom of mother nature and the beauty of joy for others success. Accept the beauty that if you put in the time and effort to achieve higher success, that success is guaranteed, in this life or the next.

Life is to be viewed through three primary prisms, truth, personalism/unity, and love. If you hold these three outlooks on life, life will reciprocate in kind.
