Spirituality and Religion
In this blog, I try to communicate some of the philosophical ideas and practical tools within which eastern mysticism, specifically Vaishnav mysticism, is grounded. The metaphysics, theology, physics, and aesthetics are all geared towards creating an understanding of reality which helps to awaken a very specific style of enlightened vision. I was always intrigued by these teachings and practices and they did, in fact, help me achieve very profound states of experience which have radically shaped my understanding of life, relationships, and the true value of my tradition.
Many people today think spirituality can be, or should be divorced from Religion, and while I think there may be some positives to that thought process, I really don't think it is an honest approach to understanding either. Religion is merely a structure for inducing spiritual experience. Although the later can be had without the former, it is nearly impossible to utilize and implement the wisdom of spiritual experiences within society without a religious form of re-enactment, ritual, and the regulation of contradictory or spiritually inhibiting behaviours.
Mysticism is about personal experience. It is the quest to be a witness to the revelations which have birthed histories most powerful and influential thought and behavioural modifiers, or religions.
A mystic is not happy to simply hear about these revelations, to accept them on the merit of another, and disregard his need for truth to be the only foundation of reality. A religion without its mystics is mere robotic ritual and superstition. It is due only the mystic that these traditions have lasted and remained living influences in the world. It is due to the true mystic that our hearts still sing of the grace of Godhead. Only those who have truly drunk from the mystic well of being can sing of it with any confidence, and only they can point us towards the the truth of spirit.
Those who are genuine will know that it is the simplicity of the mystics experience which holds its profundity. It is the miracle of life, as it is.. To behold life entirely with a sense of total love and acceptance. It is like stepping outside of the limited drama of our present life story to read the entire story of life. When we take every detail throughout all time and space, only then can we understand the meaning and purpose of life.
For the simple, straightforward spiritualists like Vaishnavas, they refer to this picture by the name 'Krsna'. He is a snapshot of reality, personified with all of its might, majesty, and sweetness. Thus lovers of Krsna, are the true lovers of life, of being as such. The mystic in its purest heart.
I am inviting you on this journey home, back to your true heart, where all your desires are fulfilled, all your anxieties vanquished, and love supported by supreme peace dances effortlessly with your life.
