Mind:the creative potency
I once asked my mentor how I could keep learning when he was gone or refused to continue teaching me(a true guru will eventually leave his disciple to fend for himself and learn to apply the knowledge in his own unique way). He said that I should understand that the mind is a very powerful tool and if properly trained and befriended, could reveal all the sastras in which all knowledge was already present in a seed-like form.
After all, in the field of Self-knowledge, Brahma(the four-headed creator and speaker of the Veda) is said to be the personification of the mind. The mind, therefore, is our creative potency.
Whatever is done with the mind has the potential to manifest in our reality as thoughts affect feelings which in turn affect behaviour. This is why it is very important to recognize faulty thought patterns and fear-based anticipations. When we focus on what we don't want we actually grow that in our psyche and eventually manifest it through our behaviour.
Yogis learn to develop their mind, speech, and body in such a way that it produces the fruits of knowledge, liberation, compassion, and ultimately bhakti. Those who are wise, focus intently on what it is they truly desire and utilize the power of knowledge and action to bring forth that potential into manifest reality.

However, the correct intention and visualization can help you form a concrete goal and generate motivation and the energy to succeed, this is what "The secret" actually offers, this is why yogis use it!
Yogis have a visualization of their goal in mind at all times and then cultivate knowledge and actions in relation to that goal.
When It comes to learning and knowledge, the visualization is of Guru above the crown of the head surrounded by the original seeds of knowledge(Aksharas or letters), the Guru-mantra(Hasakaphrem etc), Guru-bija(Aim) along with Guru-shakti(Saraswati or Taara).
Knowledge of Guru is the knowledge of the relationship between Self and Superself called Sambhanda-Jnana. The fruit of such knowledge is the experience of pure devotion or bhakti.
The actions in relation to learning and knowledge are study, contemplation, and service to the teacher and ones Istha-deva.
Thus although the visualization practice has potential, it is fully expressed and manifested only when the correct knowledge is gained and effective actions are carried out.
For yogis, the trained or perfected mind is verily the desire tree called Kalpa-vrksa and the Gem-stone called Cintamani(the jewel of thought) capable of fulfilling all of one's needs and desires.
I Hope this little bit of knowledge helps you bring forth higher frequencies and propels you to the ultimate happiness of Self-knowledge and Prema-bhakti.
