The microcosm
I'm sitting down for my evening meditation in my quiet altar room. It's dimly lit and the fragrance of pure aguru fills the air. My deities sit peacefully watching over me, granting a sense of deep protection and safety to explore the depths of my being.
I try to bring myself to centre, but I reflect instead.
The day has passed uneventfully, I am studying and researching things that most interest me these days. An odd cocktail of social politics and mysticism.
I feel like I am beginning to see deep intimacy between these two fields of knowledge. After all, for the longest time in history, a society organised itself according to the morality, ideals, and symbols of religions, which were born of the hearts of mystics. Sadly, today's culture seems sadly void of its mystics. I pause to consider the consequences of such a reality. I sigh deeply and turn back to my meditation. Let me begin...
I pray to Ganapati to remove all obstacles, to the earth for support, to my asana for stability, and to my Guru/lineage masters for purification and guidance towards my goal, the super self.
I take the acamana cup and purify my mouth and limbs reciting specific prayers to the 24 Vishnu tattvas(The highest expression of the 24 principles of Sankhya).
Breathing in deeply, I link my soul with the divine in Sahasrara and then sequentially meditate upon the five elements of being purifying them with mantra, attention, and breath. Allowing them to fold into their successively subtler states until my body has completely been dissolved into the void of being.
Sitting peacefully at the feet of the Paramahamsa within the void, I bear witness to the recreation of my body through divine syllables and knowledge.
Utilising the sonic formation of reality known as Akshara, I meditate on the evolution of my being in pure mantric form.
From "a" to Ah" space and identity emerge
Air comes forth from ka to tha
Fire arises from da to pha
The element of water comes forth with ba to la
and finally earth with va to sa
A mantra body is born.
I then watch as guru descends to place his feet upon my head granting grace and perfection upon me. He tells me "reflect upon the swan of your breath as it flies in and out, keeping your gaze steady and fixed at the point of Guru's feet, watch."
I am ever watchful.
I hear his voice within speak again "Know this to be the microcosmic evolution, sustenance, and dissolution of the universe of your own being. The great Omkara! This breath is your soul, the spirit, the great being of light."
I rest in this revelation but lose attention after some time, I cannot hold this state for very long and I slowly come back to my ego... I am back to my normalcy, my simplicity. A simplicity equally as relevant and mystical as my cosmic being.
Giving thanks I dedicate the merit of my practice to all sentient beings so that they may attain the dharma and the happiness that follows the realisation of truth.
Awaiting the next time I am allowed back home, I hold on to this feeling in the name of my Ishta-Deva, may it always pull me to its centre.
